I have known Stefanie for many many years. We danced and performed together in the Eastern European folk ensemble group, Slavjane. I was so happy when she asked to meet with me to discuss her wedding photography. She’s gorgeous, funny, and I knew the party would be out of control. Stef and Luke both have Eastern European roots and have a strong hold on preserving their heritage. They were married at St. John’s Byzantine Catholic Cathedral in Munhall, PA during a beautiful, traditional Byzantine wedding ceremony and mass. You will see many unique aspects to the ceremony, like the floral crowns that they wear (so beautiful!!). Stef’s parent’s directed the choir during the ceremony – and they sounded amazing. The band, Tamburaški Sastav Ponoć, played live music at the front doors to the church to entertain guests after the ceremony, and they continued to play while the guests enjoyed BBQ (and vodka) at a mini-reception at the church.
We took formal portraits at the Waterfront in Munhall and used a historic pump house that was in use during the steel industry boom in Pittsburgh. It was unseasonably cold and windy, but that would never stop me from taking gorgeous outdoor portraits. Have I mentioned that Stef and Luke’s bridal party was insanely fun – and also seriously good looking? I have known Stef’s bridesmaids for many years and Luke’s groomsmen were mostly visiting from his native Canada. For the first time in my wedding career, I heard the bridal party sing a national anthem. “Oh Canada!” was sung on the limo not once, but twice! LOL. (Sorry U.S.A. – Stef’s leaving for our neighbor country up north when this wedding is over) There were also drinking songs and games being played on the limo – “Glug glug glug, glug glug glug!”
The Sheraton Pittsburgh Airport wedding reception was absolutely flawless. I can’t say enough about the heartfelt details that went into the reception and about the venue itself. The staff was amazing and did a beautiful job setting up and executing a beautiful dinner and full night of partying and dancing. Luke put a lot of elbow grease into building some of the reception details you will see. I know the cake/cupcake stand is his handywork, and it’s incredible!! The reception was full of teary eyed speeches and DANCING. They had a Tambura band and also a DJ. They mixed the old with the new and there was never a dull moment. This was the longest wedding day that Josh and I have ever photographed, but we were never bored for a second. Now, I’ll let the story tell itself through some of my favorites of the day – below! ENJOY!
Thanks for being here!! Only 1 wedding remaining for the year. (Bittersweet feeling)
Remember, even though I am living in Nashville now, I am still booking weddings in Pittsburgh and am willing to travel anywhere really! So, tell your family, friends, and neighbors – Only a few dates are open in 2015!!
